§ 111. Compound prepositions composed oí a noun and one oí the<br />

four preceding postfixes arose tbrougb frequent usage of the combinations<br />

in question. For example igi-Sú means 'unto the face', and<br />

igi-bi-Sú means 'unto its face', Le. 'before it'; igi-ni-ra, 'unto his face',<br />

'unto him'. <strong>The</strong> noun or pronoun governed by such compounds must<br />

be placed between the component elements since syntactically it is a<br />

genitive depending upon a construct. <strong>The</strong> following are the principal<br />

compound prepositions.<br />

§ 112. igi-sú, 'towards the face', beíore, over against. igi-uku­<br />

SÚIl-igi-bar-ra-zu ní-a gegallam, 'before the people whom thou regardest<br />

comes abundance in plenty'. igi-ni-Sú si-im-sá, 'before her he introduced'<br />
