general it sounds the same as in other lan-
guages, as rach, go, mòr, great, where it
has the same sounds with r, in raw. viove :
But if in the same syllable r be preceded
or followed by a small voweJ, e or /, or both,
it has a sound to which there is none simi-
lar in English, but resembling that of the
French word, jrrairie, a meadow ; as in
airidh, worthy, ^r, men.
