ABSTRACT
Eddy current testing relies on the disturbance of eddy currents
induced in a conducting material by an alternating
electromagnetic field. While the data acquisition is very
simple, its interpretation is complex and a lifetime of
experience of the operator is sometimes required.
This paper describes a new approach where the flaws in aluminum
sheets will be imaged in a fashion similar to an X-ray or
ultrasonic C-scan image. An array of coils is used to generate
the image of the flaw. Both wire wound and printed circuit coil
arrays can be used. The inversion of the data is discussed and
future work outlined.
