Puppet Positions<br />

Make a simple sock puppet using an old child-sized, white sock.<br />

Use a black marker to draw two eyes and a mouth on the tip of the sock.<br />

Tell your child that the puppet is going to learn to do some tricks!<br />

Have your child slip the sock puppet over her hand and show you the<br />

following actions:“Put the puppet on top of your head, beside your shoe,<br />

and under your chin.”<br />

If your child has not learned some of the position words, model for her as you<br />

say the words,“The puppet is on my shoulder.”<br />

Special Needs Tip<br />

Use signs, or gestures, to ask a child who is hearing impaired to<br />

show you the different positions with the puppet.<br />

Blues Clues!<br />

Put several familiar items on a table or the carpet.<br />

Tell your child to try and guess which of the items you are thinking about.<br />

Give clues such as the color, shape, the sound it makes, and how it is used.<br />

Make the clues easier until your child identifies the correct item.<br />

Tell your child he guessed right by listening carefully to your clues!<br />

Developmental Tip<br />

Some three year olds may still be working on naming colors. Be<br />

sure you give other clues to help them guess the item.<br />
