You and your child can learn to handle separations. Practice being apart for brief
moments and then come back together with a calming statement such as, “Mommy
went to the store for your milk. I came right back and here, I am! You played with
Grandpa and your toys while Mommy was gone.”
Daily routines will give your child a sense of security in knowing what to expect
and when to expect it. Keep routines and schedules for meals, bath, playtime and
bedtime as simple and low-stress as possible.
Every child shows differences in temperament or personality when they are born.
Some children are slower to “warm up” to new people and experiences. Be patient
if this describes your child. Encourage your child to try new things. Forcing them
often makes you and your child frustrated.
