P 8.5 Additional local specialised bus services should be provided to cater<br />
for special needs, such as “night rider” and community buses.<br />
P 8.6 Public transport services should be provided at the outset <strong>of</strong><br />
development.<br />
P 8.7 A comprehensive pedestrian and bicycle path network should be<br />
provided, integrated with existing and proposed external municipal<br />
bicycle network links along Surf Coast Highway (Torquay Road), Mt<br />
Duneed Road, Barwon Heads Road, Horseshoe Bend Road and<br />
Boundary Road.<br />
P 8.8 New pedestrian bridges should be provided across the existing railway<br />
line and proposed east-west link road (see below) at:<br />
o<br />
o<br />
o<br />
Rossack Drive;<br />
Bieske Road; and<br />
the western end <strong>of</strong> Bickford Road.<br />
P 8.9 A network <strong>of</strong> connector streets should be provided across the <strong>growth</strong><br />
area spaced approximately 800 metres apart and aligned to provide<br />
convenient access to the activity centres, as shown in Figure 4.8.1. In<br />
accordance with Clause 56 <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Geelong</strong> Planning Scheme,<br />
these streets should have:<br />
o<br />
o<br />
o<br />
o<br />
o<br />
one traffic lane in each direction;<br />
generous footpaths on both sides;<br />
shared or dedicated cycle paths on both sides;<br />
kerbside parking on both sides; and<br />
development frontages on both sides.<br />
P 8.10 The local street network should be highly inter-connected, in<br />
accordance with Clause 56 <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Geelong</strong> Planning Scheme,<br />
with most local streets connected at both ends.<br />
P 8.11 A new link road (the “east-west link road”) should be provided linking<br />
Anglesea Road (the <strong>Geelong</strong> Ring Road) with the Bellarine Highway,<br />
broadly on the alignment shown in the Framework Plan in Section 3.1.<br />
P 8.12 Provision should be maintained for Barwon Heads Road to be<br />
widened to two lanes in each direction.<br />
