CODE BLUE PERSON INITIATING RESPONSE Call Switchboard on 2444 and advise: • Type of emergency (CODE BLUE) • Exact location • Recognise extent of emergency - suspected cardiac arrest (unconscious patient with absent pulse) uncontrolled bleeding, possible serious injury due to accident. • Call for local assistance. If more than one person is present, one or two will attend to patient while others raise the alarm, collect equipment etc. 27/09/00 Page 7 of 14
CODE BLUE STAFF IN THE AREA OF THE INCIDENT • Provide treatment • Clear airway • Support breathing • Sustain circulation • Control bleeding • Note time of discovery and changes in patient’s condition on formal record. • Collect available equipment • resuscitation trolley, bag or box, portable oxygen and suction (refer appendix) and defibrillator. • Advise responding Resuscitation Team / Ambulance on progress to date • Attend post incident debriefing • Complete reports 27/09/00 Page 8 of 14
