CODE BLUE CODE BLUE Medical Emergency RESPOND BLUE This procedure is to be used for obtaining immediate assistance in instances of cardiac arrest or other acute conditions which are perceived as potentially life threatening. The aim of the procedure is to provide trained personnel and specialist equipment at the site of the emergency to resuscitate and/or prepare the patient for transport to an appropriate area for ongoing care. For this procedure, patient refers not only to admitted patients but to staff and visitors who may suffer potentially life threatening conditions that may require immediate assistance. It is not the intention of this procedure to give step by step instruction in conditioning Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or other first aid treatment. Those instructions are included in other documents which are supported by training for staff responsible for providing the assistance eg.
