CODE GREY<br />
PERSON INITIATING RESPONSE<br />
Call Switchboard on 2444 and advise:<br />
• Type <strong>of</strong> emergency (CODE<br />
GREY)<br />
• Exact location<br />
Until the response team is assembled, staff initiating the alert should:<br />
• try to defuse the situation through recommended interpersonal strategies;<br />
• move patients and staff at risk <strong>of</strong> injury away from the area;<br />
• move dangerous objects;<br />
• stay calm and communicate quietly<br />
• ensure other patients or visitors do not become involved.<br />
Exceptional Circumstances:<br />
If there is a definite risk to life, or <strong>of</strong> serious injury occurring, only then, in order<br />
to discharge duty <strong>of</strong> care, should staff attempt immediate physical intervention<br />
prior to the arrival <strong>of</strong> the full Code Grey Emergency Response Team.<br />
