Respond Yellow<br />
AREA WARDEN – CODE YELLOW ALERT<br />
If cause has not been confirmed<br />
• Verify the details given and ensure the safety <strong>of</strong> persons in the immediate<br />
vicinity.<br />
• Don tabard (vest) identifying position.<br />
• Prevent unauthorised access by others to the affected area.<br />
• Ensure "CODE YELLOW ALERT" has been initiated.<br />
(Dial 2444, report "RESPOND YELLOW ALERT " give your name, the location<br />
<strong>of</strong> the incident and all relevant details. If possible, state exact nature <strong>of</strong> any<br />
substance(s) involved, fault, incident. e.g. type <strong>of</strong> chemical, utilities failure etc).<br />
• Liaise with Deputy Co-ordinator / Emergency Response Team staff on arrival.<br />
• Prepare for activation <strong>of</strong> Code Yellow Action.<br />
If cause has been confirmed<br />
AREA WARDEN – CODE YELLOW ACTION<br />
• Verify the details given and ensure the safety <strong>of</strong> persons in the immediate<br />
vicinity.<br />
• Don tabard (vest) identifying position.<br />
• Prevent unauthorised access by others to the affected area.<br />
• If hazardous material involved, break glass alarm, press button.<br />
• Instigate evacuation if necessary. (Request assistance from adjoining areas if<br />
required.)<br />
Movement must be upwind if outside or through smoke doors if inside.<br />
• Ensure staff member proceeds to main entrance <strong>of</strong> affected area/building, to<br />
await the arrival <strong>of</strong> the Deputy Emergency Co-ordinator and/or emergency<br />
service personnel to provide directions.<br />
• Maintain communication with switchboard and be ready to advise the<br />
Emergency Co-ordination Centre <strong>of</strong> status and the necessity for evacuation.<br />
• Ensure orderly removal <strong>of</strong> visitors and mobile patients from the area.<br />
• Ensure prompt and orderly removal <strong>of</strong> visitors and mobile patients from the<br />
area.<br />
• Liaise with Deputy Co-ordinator on arrival, provide a situation report.<br />
• Liaise with the MFESB Officer in Charge at the scene on arrival and provide<br />
situation report (identify potential hazards such as medical gases, sensitive<br />
equipment etc).<br />
• Retrieve patient/staff registers and evacuate them away from the danger area<br />
through the nearest fire/smoke door.<br />
• Retrieve medical records if possible.<br />
• Liaise with Emergency Co-ordinator using Warden Intercom Phones (WIP).<br />
• Maintain communication links with the switchboard - as required.<br />
• Instigate further horizontal evacuation if necessary. (Request assistance from<br />
adjoining areas if required).<br />
• Advise the Emergency Co-ordinator when evacuation has been completed.<br />
