ENGINEERING STAFF<br />

AFTER NOTIFICATION OF LIFT BREAKDOWN:<br />

Proceed directly to the affected lift.<br />

Ascertain what steps are necessary to rectify problem and check if anyone is trapped.<br />

If fault cannot be rectified:<br />

Contact the lift service company and arrange for immediate attention (state the<br />

urgency <strong>of</strong> problem, i.e. person(s) trapped or not).<br />

If persons are trapped:<br />

Contact the Emergency Co-ordinator (via Switch ext 2444)<br />

Liaise nursing/medical staff to ensure patient needs are addressed.<br />

Ensure that the Manager F.E.M. and Risk Management have been informed.<br />

MANAGER F.E.M.<br />

AFTER NOTIFICATION OF LIFT BREAKDOWN<br />

Ensure all relevant actions are being taken to quickly rectify problem.<br />

Document all problems encountered.<br />

Immediately arrange for the nominated nursing staff member to contact the trapped<br />

person(s) in the affected lift.<br />

Ascertain if persons in lift are in distress.<br />

Inform occupants what positive steps are being taken.<br />

Reassure occupants.<br />

Arrange for medical assistance if necessary.<br />

Liaise and co-ordinate with the Emergency Engineering staff.<br />

The incident should be recorded and the incident/hazard/near miss report submitted<br />

to Risk Management.<br />
