AREA WARDEN<br />

• Verify the details given and ensure the safety <strong>of</strong> persons in the immediate<br />

vicinity.<br />

• Don tabard (vest) identifying your position.<br />

• Ensure "CODE GREEN" has been initiated with both Group Four and St.<br />

Vincent’s Hospital. (Call the SWITCHBOARD on 2444 and report "CODE<br />

GREEN", give your name, the location <strong>of</strong> the incident and all relevant details).<br />

• Liaise with Deputy Co-ordinator / Emergency Co-ordinator / Emergency<br />

Response staff (on arrival or by telephone), provide a situation report - SITREP<br />

(identify potential hazards such as weapons, medical conditions, sensitive<br />

equipment etc).<br />

• Ensure prompt and orderly removal <strong>of</strong> visitors to lift foyer and mobile patients to<br />

another secure area. Some patients may need to be discharged to Port Philip<br />

Prison, discuss with medical unit.<br />

• Retrieve patient/staff registers and evacuate them away from the danger area.<br />

• Retrieve medical records if possible.<br />

• Ensure all doors are locked (to maintain integrity <strong>of</strong> security).<br />

• Maintain communication links with the Emergency Co-ordination Centre,<br />

switchboard / external agencies using telephone - as required.<br />

• Ensure lifts at rear <strong>of</strong> building have been isolated to the third floor <strong>of</strong> the In-patient<br />

Services Building.<br />

• Liaise with Senior Corrections Officer.<br />

• Liaise with Senior Police Officer.<br />

• Instigate further horizontal evacuation if necessary. (Request assistance, if<br />

required).<br />

• Advise the Emergency Co-ordinator when evacuation has been completed.<br />

• Advise Emergency Co-ordinator when to give All Clear.<br />

• Note that there is a key on the corrections <strong>of</strong>ficers set <strong>of</strong> keys for accessing the<br />

fire escape doors.<br />
