CODE BLACK<br />

<strong>EMERGENCY</strong> CO-ORDINATOR<br />

• Respond to the Emergency Co-ordination Centre immediately and take over<br />

Emergency Control Room duties.<br />

• Release Control Room Security Officer (Deputy Co-ordinator) to attend scene.<br />

• Don tabard (vest) identifying position.<br />

• Ensure Switchboard has notified Police, Security and relevant St. Vincent’s staff.<br />

• Maintain communication with the Area Warden, Deputy Emergency Co-ordinator<br />

and Security Officers at the scene.<br />

• Liaise with Police and direct to location <strong>of</strong> incident.<br />

• Activate “Respond Orange” evacuation <strong>of</strong> area as considered necessary,<br />

commencing horizontally and then vertically. Advise adjoining areas <strong>of</strong> possible<br />

danger.<br />

• Liaise with Officer In Charge <strong>of</strong> responding Police via Deputy Emergency Coordinator.<br />

• Request assistance from other senior staff as required<br />

• Recall/notify St. Vincent’s Security and ‘on call’ staff as required. (Assistance<br />

with control, communications, evacuations and media).<br />

• Act as initial media liaison point, keeping media outside the Hospital.<br />

• Set up a patient query line to answer calls from the public if incident warrants.<br />

• Ensure that relevant information about the emergency and its progress is regularly<br />

provided to appropriate people.<br />

• Give “All Clear” order on termination <strong>of</strong> emergency.<br />

• Maintain a message/action log and provide a report to Risk Manager on<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> incident.<br />

• Ensure that a debriefing is conducted following significant incidents.<br />
