<strong>EMERGENCY</strong> CARE CENTRE STAFF<br />
CODE BROWN<br />
I NCIDENT C ONTROLLER -<br />
ECC CONSULTANT ON D UTY/CALL<br />
• Co-ordinate the pre-hospital arrival, emergency stabilisation and the in-patient<br />
disposition <strong>of</strong> victims.<br />
• Liaise between MAS, Displan Coordinator, Inpatient Directorates & Executive<br />
Director.<br />
• Assess medical and nursing needs <strong>of</strong> the Emergency Care Centre.<br />
• Allocate Emergency Medical staff member to the Mobile team if required.<br />
• Organise Triage Team consisting <strong>of</strong> one Senior Nurse and Doctor.<br />
• Clear department and waiting room <strong>of</strong> all non-urgent patients. Any new nondisaster<br />
patients who are urgent, will be triaged as part <strong>of</strong> the disaster<br />
• Fast track all existing stable ECC patients.<br />
• Provide Emergency Control Centre with updates on casualty clearance from the<br />
department.<br />
• Inform Engineering (FEM) if airflow may be contaminated.<br />
• Act for the Director <strong>of</strong> Clinical Services in their absence<br />
• Ensure tabards are donned.<br />
• Consider evacuating the ECC if it becomes a disaster site itself. If appropriate, the<br />
St.Vincent’s at Home nursing <strong>of</strong>fices may be utilised as a temporary ECC.<br />
Otherwise the ECC would become part <strong>of</strong> a general hospital evacuation -<br />
