CODE BLUE NURSE UNIT MANAGER / ASSOCIATE NURSE UNIT MANAGER • Ensure that appropriate emergency treatment is provided for the patient. • Ensure that switchboard has been notified. • Ensure that required equipment is collected. • If outside the defined Area Coverage (Refer page 2), if possible, allocate staff to meet the Ambulance and direct them to the emergency location. • Complete reports and audits. • Arrange debriefing for staff involved. • Arrange for counselling if required. • Ensure contact is made with next of kin. 27/09/00 Page 11 of 14
CODE BLUE HOSPITAL AFTER HOURS NURSING COORDINATOR • Proceed to the emergency location. • Liaise with the Medical Team re: the location of the Nursing and Support staff for assistance. • Ensure required equipment is made available. • Ensure used equipment is returned to its correct location and/or cleaned and replenished by Sterile Processing Centre (SPC). • Attending post incident debriefing. • Assist with completion of arrest audit and return to ICU. 27/09/00 Page 12 of 14
