How would it feel if you or me, Were<br />

dragged from bed to go potty,<br />

<strong>In</strong> a great big metal frame that scares, With<br />

half pulled curtains and lots <strong>of</strong> stares.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re’s lots <strong>of</strong> chatting going on,<br />

But no-one speaks to us. Not one.<br />

Wishing to speak, just to say,<br />

‘Nurse, I feel so lonely today’.<br />

How would it feel if you and me<br />

Changed our attitudes to see, That<br />

the lady in bed three is Mary. She’s<br />

had a stroke and cannot speak, But<br />

her prognosis is far from bleak. She<br />

needs assistance with her meal,<br />

A choice would be nice she may well feel,<br />

So don’t just leave her a slice <strong>of</strong> bread,<br />

She may want porridge, please ask her,<br />

She will nod her head.<br />

She is very nervous in the hoist,<br />

Just reassure her in a gentle voice.<br />

She likes music, and did you know<br />

She was in a band some years ago.<br />

She has a daughter and likes when you say,<br />

If she will or won’t be visiting today.<br />

How would it feel if you or me,<br />

Suddenly found ourselves to be,<br />

Dragged and hoisted, fed hot tea.<br />

Stripped <strong>of</strong> our identity,<br />

Unable to shout ‘it’s me Mary’ NOT,<br />

<strong>The</strong> stroke over there in bed three.<br />
