<strong>The</strong>me 4: Directors <strong>of</strong> Nursing and Managers<br />

• Managers need to be formally introduced to PD processes prior to the<br />

commencement <strong>of</strong> a programme.<br />

• Develop a ‘contract’ between managers, funders, facilitators and evaluators that<br />

makes explicit roles and responsibilities and support requirements.<br />

<strong>The</strong>me 5: Audit and Evaluation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Practice</strong><br />

• Practitioners to be actively engaged in designing and collecting data/evidence at<br />

local levels.<br />

• Observation <strong>of</strong> care should be an ongoing peer review process in all sites.<br />

• All sites should measure and evaluate their workplace culture and benchmarking<br />

across sites should be encouraged.<br />

• All sites should have formalised action plans based on insider led practice<br />

development priorities.<br />

<strong>The</strong>me 6: <strong>Older</strong> People and Families<br />

• <strong>Older</strong> people and their families should be considered to be active participants in<br />

all practice development programmes in residential care settings.<br />

• Methods <strong>of</strong> developing practice should be mainstreamed and integrated into<br />

everyday care processes, and reflective and development processes.<br />

• Ways <strong>of</strong> informing older people and their families about ongoing advancements<br />

in practice need to be established and evaluation data made public to them<br />

alongside other data sources such as HIQA review findings.<br />
