2.2.2 Business sampling frame development and maintenance<br />

The Business Register forms the pillar of the business sampling frame which is used as the sampling frame for the various<br />

maintained so that new businesses are included and dead units are removed. The different components in the division each<br />

play a pivotal role in the day-to-day maintenance of the Business Register.<br />

The Business Register is derived from the various tax registers of SARS. The maintenance source is the value added<br />

tax register. A set of business rules are developed to capture the changes in businesses such as economic activity<br />

<br />

to ensure that reliable and accurate information is reported. Turnover of businesses is used in conjunction with employment<br />

indicators as a sizing measure. The accuracy of a business sampling frame, as a foundation of economic statistics, allows<br />
