He expected deployment to commence <strong>in</strong> mid-December<br />
with the force build-up phase last<strong>in</strong>g approximately 2<br />
months. Reduction of the force and redeployment was<br />
envisioned to beg<strong>in</strong> at about 9 months <strong>in</strong>to the operation.<br />
Also, he stated that the adm<strong>in</strong>istration would do all that it<br />
could to prevent mission creep.<br />
Major General Nash, TF EAGLE Commander, also<br />
addressed the leaders. I recorded his “four ma<strong>in</strong> po<strong>in</strong>ts”:<br />
• TF EAGLE will implement the military tasks<br />
required by the Dayton <strong>Peace</strong> Accord.<br />
• We will make the multi-national division work.<br />
• We will assist <strong>in</strong> the humanitarian aid and civil<br />
affairs as much as possible.<br />
• We will protect the force.<br />
Major General Nash stated that our primary threats<br />
were the w<strong>in</strong>ter, the m<strong>in</strong>es, and the rogue elements. His<br />
keys to success were discipl<strong>in</strong>e, <strong>in</strong>formed soldiers, a<br />
common view of the situation among commanders at all<br />
levels, the judgment of leaders, and professionalism.<br />
On November 25-26, we cont<strong>in</strong>ued the detailed<br />
coord<strong>in</strong>ation with the TF EAGLE planners and the U.S. Air<br />
Force liaison officers. In particular we planned the <strong>in</strong>itial<br />
airflow from Aviano Airbase, Italy, <strong>in</strong>to Tuzla Airbase. We<br />
agreed on 21 C-130 sorties per day for the first 4 days to<br />
<strong>in</strong>sert the battalion combat team.<br />
Additionally, we met Major Angelosante, the<br />
commander of the Air Force Special Police element that<br />
would be OPCON to the battalion combat team. We<br />
discussed their security responsibilities. Essentially, they<br />
would be responsible for the security of the tower area, the<br />
ramp area, and the aircraft on the ground. The battalion<br />
