2.1.1 Overview<br />

The operations of the Corporate Services Directorate are mainly a support function to the service delivery arm or<br />

directorate of the institution. Its operations are based on the strategies and objectives as outlined in the Integrated<br />

Development Plan of the institution IDP. It is responsible for the following components: Human Resources,<br />

Administration and Legal Services, Fleet Management Services.<br />

2.1.2 Human Resources Section<br />

The <strong>Chris</strong> <strong>Hani</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>Municipality</strong> total workforce is 418 employees, of whom 291 are permanent employees, 102<br />

are as a result of staff transferred by the Department of Water Affairs and 25 are temporary staff members.<br />

The table below shows the number of employees who have since terminated their service and those that have<br />

commenced employment. It is noted with deep regret that four employees who have been adding value to the<br />

<strong>Municipality</strong> and community at large have passed away.<br />

It is important to note that six of the above appointments were as a result of promotion to management and<br />

supervisory level.<br />

The <strong>Municipality</strong> values stability in the workplace and through the Local Labour Forum all labour related issues<br />

are discussed and resolved between the employer component and the labour components represented by South<br />

African Municipal Workers Union [SAMWU] and Independent Municipal Allied Trade Union [IMATU]<br />
