One of the innovative elements of this research initiative was the presentation of an interim, rather than a final report, of emerging findings for discussion at a conference in Belfast in March 2006. The outcomes of the conference are incorporated into this report. Finally as editors of this publication we wish to record how greatly we enjoyed working with the researchers and other key stakeholders of this research initiative; and to thank all those who participated in the research, including the Office for First and Deputy First Minister and the Centre for Cross Border Studies which commissioned the NCCRI to undertake this research.
