Attack Types and Offensive Bonuses<br />
Humanoid Golems attack their opponents in two<br />
ways: either by pummeling their foes with their fists or<br />
grappling their opponents followed by a devastating<br />
crushing squeeze. Such golems receive three distinct<br />
attacks with separate Offensive Bonuses as their default.<br />
The size of each of these attacks defaults to the<br />
Golem’s Size, e.g. Large Golems do Large Bash, Large<br />
Grapple, and Large Crush attacks, except for Tiny<br />
Golems which do Small attacks but resolve any critical<br />
results on the Tiny Critical Strike Table.<br />
Note: Creators can raise the attack size at a cost of +1<br />
creation level per size increment.<br />
The basic Offensive Bonus for all three attacks is<br />
given below – note that certain materials will alter the<br />
base OBs as detailed in Table 6.2. Creators can adjust<br />
the base OB upwards or downwards at a cost of +1 or<br />
–1 creation level per OB modifier. Each OB is adjusted<br />
separately. The value of the OB modifier varies according<br />
to size of the golem – this is because a little extra<br />
precision equates to a much more telling blow from a<br />
larger entity owing to its greater momentum.<br />

Example: The alchemist’s Clay Goblin Golem is a<br />
Tiny Creature with Small Bash, Small Grapple and<br />
Small Crush attacks. The base OB for all three<br />
attacks is 20. Unfortunately the Golem’s clay nature<br />
imposes a –20 penalty on its Bash and Crush attacks,<br />
and a –10 penalty on its Grapple attack. Thus its OBs<br />
are +0 Small Bash, +10 Small Grapple, and +0<br />
Small Crush. The alchemist decides to reduce the<br />
Golem’s Grapple attack to 0, reducing the creation<br />
level from 11 to 9.<br />
Example: The Brass Golem has no bonuses or penalties<br />
to its attacks from being made of brass. Its base<br />
OB is 80 for its Bash, Grapple, and Crush attacks.<br />
The magician chooses to raise its Medium Bash<br />
attack from 80 to 100, increasing the Golem’s level to<br />
11. The actual encounter level for the Brass Golem is<br />
11/4 (for Medium Size) = 2.75, rounded up to 3.<br />
