Placement
101 courses are reserved for students who have not previously
studied the language in which they plan to enroll.
Students who have had previous exposure to a language
and plan to continue the study of the same language must
consult the placement policies for that language. Students
who enroll in advanced courses may obtain credit by the
challenge procedure for any courses below the level of the
one in which they enroll.
To Challenge a Course
Students can earn hours for language courses numbered
101, 102, 201, and 202 without taking an examination by
earning a grade of A or B in a course numbered higher than
the course(s) challenged. A grade of Pass/Fail (CR/NC) is
assigned to all challenged course(s). Please note that the student
is responsible for fees associated with earned hours.
