Graduate Programs<br />

The <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Foreign Languages <strong>and</strong> Literatures (FLL)<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers the following graduate degrees:<br />

• M.A. in Comparative Literatures <strong>and</strong> Cultural Studies<br />

• M.A. in French<br />

• M.A. in German Studies<br />

• Ph.D. in French Studies<br />

All graduate programs are administered by a Graduate<br />

Committee composed <strong>of</strong> three members <strong>of</strong> the FLL graduate<br />

faculty, the Director <strong>of</strong> Graduate Studies <strong>and</strong> the Chairperson<br />

<strong>of</strong> FLL. Except for the internal regulations <strong>and</strong> requirements<br />

outlined below, all degree programs are subject to the terms<br />

<strong>of</strong> The University <strong>of</strong> New Mexico Catalog in effect at the time<br />

a student is admitted into a specific program.<br />

The <strong>Department</strong> awards a limited number <strong>of</strong> assistantships,<br />

either as a Teaching Assistant or as a Graduate Assistant.<br />

Classical Studies<br />

Major Study Requirements<br />

The student majoring in Classical Studies will choose one <strong>of</strong><br />

two concentrations, depending on the wish to take a broader<br />

spectrum <strong>of</strong> courses relating to the ancient world (Civilization<br />

Concentration) or concentrate in Greek <strong>and</strong> Latin (Language<br />

Concentration). Those students wishing to pursue graduate<br />

study in the Classics are advised to choose the Language<br />

Concentration.<br />

Civilization Concentration:<br />

Requirements: 30 hours:<br />

1. Six hours Latin or Greek above 200<br />

2. Three hours Classics 204 or 205<br />

3. Three hours Classics 333 or 334<br />
