COLLEGE STATION FIRE DEPARTMENT<br />
SUBJECT: Arson Investigations SOP: 700.3.10<br />

1. Incident Commander CSFD will determine if an Arson Investigator is needed and initiate<br />
response.<br />
2. Incident Commander will notify UPD Officer on scene of above action.<br />
3. UPD Officer will notify communications to call in a Detective.<br />
4. CSFD and UPD will isolate the arson scene until the investigation is completed.<br />
5. UPD will release the scene by notifying the Radio Room. Then and only then will Physical<br />
Plant personnel be allowed to enter the <strong>fire</strong> scene. Unless it is deemed necessary by the Fire<br />
Chief or his representative that action needs to be taken to further protect or lessen the loss of<br />
property and/or restore conditions which may have a direct negative impact on others outside the<br />
<strong>fire</strong> scene.<br />
6. If University Personnel happen upon a <strong>fire</strong> in progress or an extinguished <strong>fire</strong> they are to notify<br />
the UPD immediately.<br />
7. CSFD Arson Investigator will assist the UPD in the investigation, evidence gathering and<br />
testifying. Evidence gathered will be processed by the CSFD as necessary.<br />
8. If the UPD ascertains that there is a pattern of <strong>fire</strong>s on campus they will contact the CSFD Arson<br />
Division for assistance.<br />
9. The College Station Fire Department shall provide normal <strong>fire</strong> investigation service to Texas<br />
A&M University at no additional cost; Provided the investigation is not unusual in nature. Texas<br />
A&M University shall assist the College Station Fire Department with any unusual or extensive<br />
costs associated with investigations conducted on University property.<br />
