Definitions<br />

Interior Structural Firefighting<br />

The physical activity of <strong>fire</strong> suppression, rescue, or both, inside buildings or enclosed structures<br />

which are involved in a <strong>fire</strong> situation beyond the incipient stage.<br />

Incipient Stage Fires<br />

This is defined as “a <strong>fire</strong> in the initial or beginning stage which can be controlled or extinguished<br />

by a portable <strong>fire</strong> extinguisher, class II standpipe, or small hose (no larger than a red line).<br />

Interior Team<br />

An entry team consisting of a minimum of two <strong>fire</strong>fighters in full protective clothing and SCBAs<br />

working together as a team, maintaining voice, touch, or visual contact at all times.<br />

Rapid Intervention Team (RIT)<br />

A team consisting of a minimum of two <strong>fire</strong>fighters, standing by outside the structure to provide<br />

assistance or perform rapid rescue, if needed. At least one RIT shall be assigned when additional<br />

personnel arrive at the scene of an incident involving interior <strong>fire</strong> suppression operations and whenever<br />

multiple teams are <strong>operating</strong> inside an IDLH atmosphere.
