Incident Commanders Primary Responsibilities:<br />
Establish Strategies<br />
Establish a functional ICS<br />
Rescue, remove and treat endangered or injured occupants<br />
Control spread of <strong>fire</strong> and extinguishment<br />
Protect property and contents from further damage<br />
Accountability control for personnel <strong>operating</strong> on the scene<br />
Rehabilitation for personnel <strong>operating</strong> on scene<br />
Insure adequate resources to accomplish the mission at hand<br />
Determine staging areas as needed<br />
Passing of Command:<br />
Command may be passed to another Officer or may be taken over by a higher-ranking officer if<br />
the situation dictates the need. In all cases when command is passed it will be done in the<br />
following manner:<br />
Preferred method is through face to face communications if possible.<br />
By radio if face to face transfer is not possible.<br />
The person taking command must notify dispatch of the commander change<br />
The person passing command will notify the new commander of the following:<br />
Current situation<br />
Steps that are currently in process<br />
Immediate needs<br />
Sectoring:<br />
For the purpose of simplification the responsibilities for tasks and support services should be<br />
divided into sectors determined by task and location. A few examples of this concept are listed<br />
below:<br />
Interior Fire Attack Sector<br />
Interior Fire Attack Floor 1 Sector<br />
Rehab Sector<br />
Exposure Sector Side C<br />
Ventilation Roof Sector<br />
