SCOPE & PURPOSE<br />

This policy is to establish guidelines for the response to aircraft and airport emergencies by the<br />

designated ARFF vehicle and additional C.S.F.D. units as requested.<br />

DEFINITIONS<br />

ARFF Vehicle - A vehicle specifically designed for the rapid response to aircraft emergencies.<br />

Primary responsibilities are to:<br />

1) extinguish an incipient <strong>fire</strong><br />

2) maintain at least 1 <strong>fire</strong> free path for self rescue/evacuation of passengers<br />

3) control a large <strong>fire</strong> until other units arrive to help extinguish<br />

Aircraft Emergencies -<br />

Alert I (Precautionary Emergency) - An aircraft that is known or suspected to have an<br />

operational defect that should not normally cause serious difficulty in achieving a safe landing.<br />

Example; unsafe gear lights (gear is down),<br />

Alert II (Declared Emergency) - An aircraft that is known or suspected to have an<br />

operational defect that affects normal flight operations to the extent that there is danger of an accident.<br />

Example; smoke in aircraft, landing gear problems<br />

Note!! All air carrier aircraft emergencies will be treated at a minimum as an Alert II<br />

Alert III (Aircraft Accident) -<br />

immediate vicinity of the airport.<br />

An aircraft incident /accident has occurred on or in the<br />

Airport Emergencies<br />

Structural Fires - Any <strong>fire</strong> within or in close proximity of a structure.<br />

Bomb Threats - Incidents where there is a reported threat whether it involves an aircraft or not.<br />
