Department Overtime Guidelines As It Relates To Training:<br />
Involuntary Attendance<br />
1. Overtime will be paid when the <strong>department</strong> mandates attendance.<br />
2. Personnel attending mandatory training may be placed on a modified work<br />
schedule, in lieu of payment of overtime, at the discretion of the <strong>department</strong>.<br />
3. Only time spent in actual training constitutes compensable hours of work.<br />
Voluntary Attendance<br />
1. Voluntary attendance at non-required training courses for the purpose of individual career<br />
advancement and which is not intended to make the employee more efficient in his/her present<br />
job is non-compensable.<br />
2. Overtime will not be approved solely for skill level or promotion requirement training.<br />
Travel Time<br />
1. Travel time to and from training sessions is normally non-compensable.<br />
Department Leave:<br />
1. Department leave may be approved for individual non-mandatory training if it<br />
falls within the context of CSFD training priorities.<br />
2. Department leave for classes not mandated by the <strong>department</strong> shall not create the need for overtime<br />
back filling of position situation.<br />
3. No more than two <strong>department</strong>s leaves per shift will be allowed unless there are extenuating<br />
circumstances that are approved by the Fire Chief.<br />
4. Once training is approved classes shall not be cancelled due to staffing shortages.<br />
Department Training Priorities:<br />
1. Certification Continuing Education<br />
Required <strong>fire</strong>, EMS, ARFF, EVOC, Hazardous Materials, and IMS, ICS for Hazardous Materials<br />
response.<br />
2. Department Mandated Training Programs<br />
Aerial Operations for individuals required to operate any aerial apparatus<br />
Pump operations course for those individuals required to drive and pump <strong>fire</strong> engines<br />
Paramedic certification courses as required by the <strong>department</strong> or the Medical Director,<br />
Rescue Refresher all personnel<br />
Courses required to bring personnel in line with nationally accepted <strong>standard</strong>s,<br />
