Purpose: This operation <strong>procedure</strong> shall set forth the activation and operation of the Rehab Sector<br />
during CSFD operations.<br />
INITIATION<br />
It will be the responsibility of the Incident Commander to activate the Rehab Sector during any operation<br />
where there is prolonged scene time, extreme environmental conditions or any other condition which calls<br />
for the rehabilitation of the <strong>fire</strong> fighters involved in the operation.<br />
Upon activation the Incident Commander shall assign a minimum of two individuals to staff this sector. This<br />
team could be drawn from an ambulance crew but shall not be limited to ambulance personnel. The Incident<br />
Commander shall make arrangements for the rehab supplies to be brought to the scene and will direct rehab<br />
personnel as to the location for set up.<br />
OPERATION<br />
The Rehab Sector should be set up in a location convenient to <strong>fire</strong> operations, but preferably out of sight of<br />
the incident and in as comfortable of an environment as possible. It should be located upwind of the<br />
incident.<br />
The Rehab Sector will provide for the physical and mental rehabilitation of the individual personnel involved<br />
in the incident. Medical monitoring shall also be accomplished upon entrance to and exit from this sector.<br />
Adequate records shall be kept.<br />
The Rehab Sector shall be in communication with the Incident Commander and the Staging Officer.<br />
Movement of personnel through the Rehab Sector will be co-coordinated with the Staging Officer or<br />
Incident Commander as appropriate.<br />
The Rehab Sector should be clearly marked. Vests must be worn by rehab sector officers.<br />
The Rehab Sector shall provide for cool down/warm up of individuals as needed. Fluid rehydration shall be<br />
accomplished. The means for personal hygiene shall be provided. In a prolonged incident food<br />
nourishment shall be provided. Dry “T-shirts” and flash hoods shall be provided.<br />
