Purpose: To provide faster knockdown of <strong>fire</strong>, to enhance <strong>fire</strong>fighter safety, reduce water<br />

damage, and to prevent re-ignition.<br />

Class A Foam is to be used on Class A type <strong>fire</strong>s only. The company officer shall make the<br />

determination when to use it. Example, initial attack on structure, deep-seated <strong>fire</strong>s, overhaul,<br />

protecting exposures, wild land <strong>fire</strong>s and trash <strong>fire</strong>s.<br />

Procedures for Foam Operation:<br />

1. Press red foam button. Light below will indicate unit is <strong>operating</strong> and will flash when foam is<br />

being discharged.<br />

2. Change and set foam percentages use –the up and down arrow keys.<br />

3. Gray button will display water flow, total water flowed, foam concentration, and total foam<br />

flowed. Push the up and down arrow keys together to reset total values.<br />

4. To shutdown, depress the red foam button.<br />

Proportioned Settings:<br />

Structure <strong>fire</strong>s, initial attack. 0.5%<br />

Overhaul. 0.2%<br />

Exposures protection. 1.0%<br />

Wetting agent. 0.3%<br />

System Maintenance:<br />

Class A foam is not corrosive like Class B foams and does not require flushing the system<br />

after each use.<br />

Do not mix other types of foam in the foam tank and/or system.<br />

Check the oil in the foam pump gear case on the first day of each month. Refill with 30<br />

weight non-detergent motor oil if needed.<br />

Remove and clean the foam trainer screens on the first of each month.<br />
