9.3. SIHM<br />
State Institute of Hospitality Management (SIHM), Kozhikkode<br />
The State institute of hospitality management is run by the Dept. of <strong>Tourism</strong>, Govt. of <strong>Kerala</strong> and is<br />
affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), New Delhi<br />
and IGNOU. Initially it offers a three year BSc degree in Hospitality and Hotel Administration (BSc H&HA)<br />
and sixty students from all over India is enrolled here based on the All India Entrance Exam conducted by<br />
the NCHMCT. International reputated, the course is highly sought after in the hospitality industry all over<br />
the world. The students who pass out have ample opportunities in hotels, airlines, cruise ships etc. as<br />
well as in other industries.<br />
The campus is currently located at the West Hills in Kozhikode which is a scenic place and the hostel<br />
facility is provided for the students in the same campus itself. State-of-the-art practical labs including<br />
Kitchen, Restaurants, and Guest Rooms etc. are being set for the core subjects in addition to computer<br />
and internet facilities. A well-equipped library with a selection of books of Indian and International<br />
authors, periodicals etc. are also being set up in a fast pace.<br />
The core areas of study are:<br />
a) Food Production and Patisserie<br />
b) Front Office Operations<br />
c) Food and Beverage Service<br />
d) Accommodation Operations<br />
In addition to the core areas students are taught ancillary subjects like Marketing, Human Resources and<br />
Strategic Management, Food Science & Nutrition, <strong>Tourism</strong> etc. as part of their curriculum. Students also<br />
have to undergo a six months industrial training at any of the reputed luxury hotels in India or outside,<br />
which will be arranged by SIHM.<br />
More job-oriented courses related with hospitality management will be started from the next year onwards.<br />
