B. According to the study on Hotels the data revealed that:<br />
• 44% of the hotels started functioning during last 10 years, 54% of them are private surveyed<br />
limited companies, and 38% are single owned.<br />
• Nearly 65% of the hotels have restaurant in the hotel itself. Conference hall, room service, TV,<br />
hot- cold water, refrigerator, telephone, transport, laundry etc are facilities available in most of<br />
the hotels. Cultural show is available in 37% of the hotels and in 38% of the hotels, bar facility is<br />
available.<br />
• Three star hotels employ highest number of persons followed by non star and two star hotels.<br />
The average number of personnel in the present sample of hotel industry is 35. During the<br />
survey, we inferred from a large number of hotels about an acute shortage of trained and quality<br />
manpower.<br />
• Nearly 36% of the hotels earn Rs.5 Lakhs or more per month and 56% of the hotels have an<br />
income of more than Rs.1 lakh monthly. The average monthly income of the sample hotels is<br />
Rs.8,38,730/-. Increasing electricity tariffs was considered as one of the major deterrent for the<br />
sustenance of the hotels.<br />
• <strong>Kerala</strong> cuisine is available in all hotels. Other south and north Indian and continental food are<br />
available in a large number of star hotels and heritage homes.<br />
C. Available Facilities<br />
The survey revealed that:<br />
• About 65% of the hotels have restaurant in the hotel itself. The facility of Conference hall, room<br />
service, TV, hot- cold water, refrigerator, telephone, transport, laundry etc are available in<br />
most of the hotels.<br />
• Cultural facilities are available in 37% of hotels.<br />
• ATM counters operate in only in very few hotels. These facilities are rare in other types of hotels.<br />
• <strong>Kerala</strong> cuisine is available in all categories of the Hotels. Other types of south Indian and north<br />
Indian as well as continental food are available in a large number of star hotels and heritage<br />
homes. Chinese food is very rare in various categories of hotels.<br />
• In 64% of the hotels, bar facility is not available. Non-availability of the bar facility is a serious<br />
drawback for the growth of hotel Industry and the policy of Bar Licenses in the State must be reexamined<br />
to ensure consistency and providing of growth opportunity for the Hotel Operators.<br />
• Majority of the hotels are not providing enough facilities for indoor and outdoor sports.<br />
