Tell the participants that once the first draft of the transect has been created, more community members can be invited to come in and add to or correct it. Note that if the transect is on paper, it can be posted in a public location within the community so that people could continue to add to it. Instructions for the Training You can only complete this exercise if you completed the physical map above. Ask participants to form small groups. If you are following the ABCD methodology from start to finish as laid out in this manual, this should be the same group of three that undertook appreciative interviews, and mapping of individual skills, associations, physical and natural resources (as described above), and you could use the community where the story took place as the demonstration site for this exercise, asking probing questions of the person who lives or lived in this community. Follow the instructions exactly as they are laid out above. When they have finished the transect, ask them to put it up alongside the other charts they have prepared in previous activities. Then, with the whole group, discuss how a transect could be done in a community setting. 96
