Event Viewer<br />

Clear an Event Log<br />

Note<br />

You must be logged on as a NT System Administrator to clear an Event Log.<br />

1. From the Event Viewer, click Log > Clear All Events. The Clear Event Log window displays<br />

asking if you wish to save the log before purging it. If you choose Yes, you are prompted for a<br />

filename.<br />

2. Click Yes or No. Choosing Yes prompts you for a filename where the file is saved before<br />

clearing it. The next window asks you to confirm the clearing of the Event Log.<br />

3. Click Yes to clear the Event Log. All event entries are cleared from the log file.<br />

Important!<br />

Once a log file is cleared and not saved, the old file entries are permanently erased.<br />

Change the Event Log Size/Overwrite Settings<br />

1. From the Event Viewer, click Log > Log Settings. The Event Log Settings box displays.<br />

2. From the drop-down menu, select the log whose settings you want to change.<br />

3. Click the up/down arrows next to Maximum Log Size to set the size of the log file. The default<br />

is 512KB.<br />

4. In the section labeled Event Log Wrapping, click the option that best suits your needs. If you<br />

select Do Not Overview Events, you need to periodically clear the Event Log.<br />

5. When finished, click OK.<br />

Filter Events<br />

1. From the Event Viewer, click Log and select the log to view.<br />

2. Click View > Filter Events. The Filter window displays.<br />

3. In the View From and View Through sections, click Events On if you wish to filter by time and/<br />

or date.<br />

4. In both the View From and View Through sections, click the arrows adjacent to the date and<br />

time to define the desired range.<br />

5. (Optional) If additional criteria are desired: In the section labeled Types, check the Event Types<br />

you wish to include.<br />

6. Using the pull-down menus, select a Source or Category.<br />

7. In the appropriate labeled text boxes, type in any User, Computer or Event ID criteria.<br />

8. When finished, click OK. The criteria you selected is now used to filter the events viewed.<br />

Reverse the Chronological Order of the Events Listed<br />

➤ Click View > Oldest First<br />

...or View > Newest First.<br />

Adjust for a Low Speed Connection when Monitoring Events over a Network<br />

➤ Click Options > Low Speed Connection.<br />
