SMITH, THERON, Deacon, died 7-22-1904, <strong>of</strong> apoplexy, age 75. (born 4-21-1822) Mr. Smithhas been a resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong> for many years, and was a man <strong>of</strong> remarkable ability, and hasdone a great deal for the welfare <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Burlington</strong> church. He leaves four brothers and fivesisters. Burial in Center Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.SOULIER, FRANCIS D. "Tiny", 67, <strong>of</strong> 47 Case Road, husband <strong>of</strong> Marilyn (Chase) Soulier,died 5-2-1995. Born in Jay, NY 1-9-1934, son <strong>of</strong> the late Francis O. and Ida (LeClair) Soulier, hehad resided in Forestville for a number <strong>of</strong> years, and in <strong>Burlington</strong> for 37 years. He was a USArmy veteran <strong>of</strong> the Korean Conflict. Besides his wife, he is survived by his two daughters andsons-in-law, Jacqueline and Richard Pryor <strong>of</strong> Gloucester, VA, Deborah and David Powers <strong>of</strong><strong>Burlington</strong>; his son Michael F.Soulier and Jeannette Cyr <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>. He was predeceased bytwo brothers, James and Albert; and a sister, Patricia Baldyga. Burial in Holy Name Cemetery,AuSabel, NY.SOWARD, DAVID ANDREW, 33, <strong>of</strong> East Shore Blvd., husband <strong>of</strong> Amy (DeTuccio)Soward, died 11-3-1996. He was born in Lexington, KY, 8-13-1963. Besides his wife, he issurvived by his daughter, Katie Delaney <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>; his father and step-mother, John B. andMarilyn Soward <strong>of</strong> Sandwich, MA; his mother and atep-father, Terry (Kessier) and AustinPage <strong>of</strong> West Hartford; two brothers, John Casey Soward and Kyle Michael Soward, both <strong>of</strong>Sandwich MA; a sister and brother-in-law, Amy and John Sassano <strong>of</strong> Avon; a sister, KatieSoward <strong>of</strong> Brighton, MA; his maternal grandmother, Wendy Kessier <strong>of</strong> Bluefield, VA; Burial inCenter Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.SPENCER, EDWARD PHELPS, 84, died 11-30-1932. He was born in <strong>Burlington</strong>, near theNew Hartford <strong>Town</strong> line on 12-10-1847. He was a great grandson <strong>of</strong> Catherine Gaylord. He wasmarried on 6-21-1877 to Miss Estelle(Fenn) a descendent <strong>of</strong> Daniel Bull a Revolutionary soldierwho settled in <strong>Burlington</strong> about 1785. They had four sons. His wife and three sons survive him;Harry E. Howard H. and Herman F. Burial in Center Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.SPENCER, ESTELLE M.(Fenn) 81, died, 1-10-1938. She was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Frank &Mary(Bull) Fenn; was born in <strong>Burlington</strong>, not far from the site <strong>of</strong> the New Britain Fresh Air Camp,on 2-1-1857. Her mother was related to "ole" Bull the violinist, a family that at one time had 32representatives in <strong>Burlington</strong> Church membership, and 19 in the choir. The founder <strong>of</strong> this familywas Daniel Bull, a Revolutionary soldier who settled in <strong>Burlington</strong> in 1785, and was deacon <strong>of</strong>the <strong>Burlington</strong> Church for 35 years. Estelle was married 6-21-1877, to Edward Phelps Spencer,a native son <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, and a great grandson <strong>of</strong> Catherine Gaylord. She leaves three sons;Harry E. Howard H. and Herman F.; and one sister, Mrs. C. B.Ives <strong>of</strong> Bristol. Burial in CenterCemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.SPENCER, HARRY E. 79, <strong>of</strong> New Hartford, died 3-30-1960. He was born in <strong>Burlington</strong>, 8-23-1880, a life long resident <strong>of</strong> New Hartford. He leaves two brothers, Howard H. <strong>of</strong> Sarasota, FLand Herman F. <strong>of</strong> Torrington. Burial in Center Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.SPENCER, HERMAN S. 76, <strong>of</strong> Torrington died 4-10-1966. He was born in New Hartford in1889. He owned and operated his own farm (Spencer Farm) in the <strong>Burlington</strong>, Nepaug and NewHartford area for many years until he retired. He leaves no near relatives. Burial in CenterCemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.SPENCER, HOWARD HOYT, 77, <strong>of</strong> RFD 1, Unionville, died 1-18-1963. He was born in NewHartford 2-1-1886 and lived in this area all his life. He leaves his wife, Lena Lewis and brother,Herman <strong>of</strong> Torrington. Burial in Center Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.SPENCER, LORENA (Phelps), 87, died 2-4-1895. Born in <strong>Burlington</strong> 11-24-1807, she hasbeen a life long resident <strong>of</strong> the town, and the oldest church member. She leaves a husband,Luman Spencer, 90 the oldest man now living in <strong>Burlington</strong>, and one son ex-RepresentativeE.P.Spencer <strong>of</strong> New Hartford. She was the last remaining granddaughter <strong>of</strong> Katherine Gaylordafter whom the daughters <strong>of</strong> the American Revolution <strong>of</strong> Bristol were named. Burial in MilfordStreet Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.SPIELMAN CLARENCE GEORGE, 78, <strong>of</strong> Covey Road, husband <strong>of</strong> Lena (Coture) Spielman,died 6-18-1994. He was born 5-17-1916 in <strong>Burlington</strong>, son <strong>of</strong> the late William and Clara115
