Born on Sept.16, 1917 in Tashkent, Russia, she was the daughter <strong>of</strong> NikolaLepehin a Colonel in the Russian Imperial Army and Ekaterina Basman-Obrutskaya. She waspredeceased by her husband Jovan Markovich in Jan. 1942. After living in France, Yugoslavia,Italy and Belgium she came to the U.S. in 1956 where she was a commercial textile designer inNew York City. Retiring in 1978 she lived in Schuylerville, NY, and then moved to Cantonseveral years ago. Ludmila was a talented artist who in addition to her textile designs took greatdelight in theatrical set design and oil painting. Ludmila leaves her son, Chedomir Markovich <strong>of</strong><strong>Burlington</strong>; and two granddaughters, Paris Markovich <strong>of</strong> Charleston, SC and KimberlynMarkovich <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>. Burial was at <strong>Burlington</strong> Center Cemetery.MARTIN, DONALD 0. "Don" 78, <strong>of</strong> Litchfield, SC, died Thursday (December 20, 2001). BornJune 12, 1923, in Stafford Springs, he was the son <strong>of</strong> the late Leon Ernest and Mary FarrMartin. Mr. Martin was a first lieutenant <strong>of</strong> the U.S. Army stationed in the U.S. and Germany inWorld War II. He attended LaSallette Seminary in Hartford, was a graduate <strong>of</strong> Central StateCollege, New Britain, and attended graduate school at the University <strong>of</strong> Connecticut in Storrs.Mr. Martin was principal <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong> Center School and Lake Garda Elementary School in<strong>Burlington</strong> for 35 years. He has been a resident <strong>of</strong> Pawleys Island, SC for 17years. Mr. Martinattended St. Michael Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Martin <strong>of</strong> PawleysIsland, SC; four daughters, Donna M. Martin <strong>of</strong> Virginia, Deborah A. Delatore <strong>of</strong> NewHampshire, Cheri I. Quickmire <strong>of</strong> New Haven, and Jeanne L. Quickmire <strong>of</strong> New Haven; sevengrandchildren, Melissa and Jason Passabet, Andrew and Dustin Delatore, Jonah and anQuickmire Pettigrew and Madeleine Poisson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, EdithMartin. Memorial services will be at a later date at St. Patricks cemetery, Farmington. He was the greatgrandson<strong>of</strong> Andrew Heublein, who formed the spirits company in Hartford. A 1927 graduate <strong>of</strong>England's Cambridge University, he began his career at Heubleins as a salesman in 1928 andwas named vice president in 1932 and president in 1937. Born in Coventry, England, he lived in<strong>Burlington</strong> and was the owner <strong>of</strong> Johnnycake Ranch. He moved to Naples in 1960. He issurvived by his wife Jane(Weeks)Martin; and a sister, Helen M.Martin <strong>of</strong> The Spring Kenilworth,Warwickshire, England.MASKAITIS, EDNA (Scheidel) 70, widow <strong>of</strong> Henry Charles Maskaitis, <strong>of</strong> 244 New BritainAve. Unionville, died 1-29-1986. Born in <strong>Burlington</strong> 5-6-1915, she lived in <strong>Burlington</strong> andCollinsville most <strong>of</strong> her life. She is survived by two sons, John <strong>of</strong> Unionville and Jerry <strong>of</strong> Avon;a daughter, Beverly Farwell <strong>of</strong> Waterbury; a brother, Robert L.Scheidel <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>; threesister, Gladys Backes <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, Carol Howland <strong>of</strong> Canton and Dorothy Fern <strong>of</strong> Avon.Another sister, Eva Scheidel, and two brothers, Albert W. and Richard F. died earlier. Born in <strong>Burlington</strong> on May5, 1901, she was a daughter <strong>of</strong> the late Ernest Neville and Rosella (Brockett) Witham. She livedin Terryville for most <strong>of</strong> her life. Prior to retirement, she was a secretary to former GovernorBowles, a secretary for the Bureau <strong>of</strong> Immigration and Transportation <strong>of</strong> Hartford, secretary othe State Department <strong>of</strong> Agriculture, secretary to the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> Plymouth Small ClaimsDepartment, and was also a secretary for the Terryville Congregational Church. She was agraduate <strong>of</strong> the Morse School <strong>of</strong> Business, an honor member <strong>of</strong> the Terryville CongregationalChurch, a past <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> the American Legion Auxiliary Plymouth Post No. 20, a member <strong>of</strong> theHolt Community Club, and also a member <strong>of</strong> various rug hooking organizations.
