ELTON, IRENE GRACE WALTROUS, 63, was born in Deep River, CT, 3-3-1896, daughter<strong>of</strong> John L. and Roselia(Bader) Waltrous. She died 5-7-1959 in Bristol Hospital being a resident<strong>of</strong> Terryville for the last seven years <strong>of</strong> her life. She was one <strong>of</strong> ten children. During WW I sheserved as an Army nurse. Irene married Charles Evlyn Elton as his first wife. He was born 7-3-1897 in Whigville, CT son <strong>of</strong> George Herbert, Sr. and Etta (Wilcox) Elton. He died 10-8-1989 inTucson, AZ and is buried there. (His second wife was Mary(Dionne). Charles (Chick) and IreneElton had two children: Etta A. born 2-3-1921, died 3-15-2005. She married Albert Fucini. FredW. born, 5-26-1922, lives in SC. Charles was a brother <strong>of</strong> George Elton who married Janet(Haviland) Elton. Buried in Center Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CTELTON, HARRIET (Ludlam), was born in Oakville, N.Y. 71 years ago 1-10-1844, and wasthe daughter <strong>of</strong> the late Thomas & Eliza Ludlam died 1-13-1912. Wife to James, they had 3children, George H. the North Main Street merchant in Bristol; Mrs. George Edwards <strong>of</strong>Waterbury, & Mrs. Cora Broadbent, who lives with her parents. Burial in Center Cemetery,<strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.ELTON JOHN, First Selectman for the last two years, died in his home in the Center (1-25-1843 4-25-1900), <strong>of</strong> cancer <strong>of</strong> the stomach, age 57. Dr. Elton was born in<strong>Burlington</strong> and passed all his life there. A remarkable circumstance is that within 24 hours afterDr. Elton's death his wife and his daughter were both lying dead in the house. They had died <strong>of</strong>pneumonia. Hewas born July 7,1917, in <strong>Burlington</strong>, son <strong>of</strong> the late Andrew M. and Catherine (Zastko) Erha andlived there all his life. He graduated as a Tool & Die Maker from E.C. Goodwin Technical Schoolin New Britain and was captain <strong>of</strong> the schools baseball team. Mr. Erho was a self employedmason for many years and had worked for Hurley Manufacturing in New Hartford and for ColtsFirearms in Hartford. He was a member <strong>of</strong> St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville and a member <strong>of</strong>the German Lodge. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind two sons. Joseph Erho and hiswife, Marianne <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, James Erho, Jr. and his wife. Susan <strong>of</strong> New Hartford; twodaughters and a son-in-Iaw, Virginia and Richard Sears <strong>of</strong> Harwinton and Geraldine Dubois <strong>of</strong>Collinsville; a sister. Gassed 3-17-1918, 20, dead at Ellis Island (1898, 7-15-1918).Company M. 102d Regiment, son <strong>of</strong> Sophia & Charles Erickson <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, has made thesupreme sacrifice. His parents were notified <strong>of</strong> his death Saturday morning at the Ellis Islandhospital by a telegram. Instructions were sent to have the body taken to the home in <strong>Burlington</strong>.It is supposed that Private Erickson was too weak to stand the voyage home. With many otherCompany M boys, he was gassed at the front. Private John Migneault, who recently spent afurlough at his home in Collinsville, said that Stanley was injured more seriously than any <strong>of</strong> theboys in the company at that time. His brother, Private Benjamin, was also gassed at that time,as were Private Austin Mahan & Corporal Axel Aranson <strong>of</strong> Collinsville. Stanley sailed for France9-11-1918. He was 20 years old, and the youngest son in the family. He was born in <strong>Burlington</strong>.He leaves his parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Hewas born in Grand Rapids, MI on December 6, 1917, a son <strong>of</strong> the late George C. and Helen(Hanson) Everett and lived in <strong>Burlington</strong> since 1962. Leaving school in the 8th grade, hebecame CEO <strong>of</strong> a large manufacturing firm. He designed vehicles, aircraft and specialmachinery. George was an avid pilot, artist, astronomer and held over 20 patents for his variousinventions. He lived everyday to its fullest. Besides his wife, he leaves four sons and twodaughters-in- law, Terry and Mary Everett <strong>of</strong> Columbia, SC, Mike Everett <strong>of</strong> Bristol, Robert andLisa Everett <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong> and Kyle Everett also <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>; two daughters and a son-in-Iaw,Diane and Donald Wescott <strong>of</strong> Gorham, ME, and Denise Everett <strong>of</strong> Harwinton; and fourgrandchildren.
