the Farmington trolley bridge, which was used in preference to the traffic bridge as it was moresubstantial. This was accomplished after the midnight trolley had completed its run.The monument was quarried by the Presbrey Coykendall Company <strong>of</strong> Barre, VT. Afterarriving at the cemetery a roadbed <strong>of</strong> large timbers was constructed running into the cemetery.The huge monument was then taken from the truck and placed on large rolls and drawn up thehill, several hundred feet to the family plot, by the use <strong>of</strong> horses and tackle blocks. It took sevento eight days to get the stone located, it was afterwards inscribed and a statue placed thereon.(Lure <strong>of</strong> Litchfield Hills, Fall-Winter 1970)UPSON, DELIGHT(Beecher) 5-1-1901, Celebrated her 100th birthday. Mrs. Upson daughter<strong>of</strong> Mr. & Mrs. John Beecher was born in Wolcott, 5-17-1801. She is the only survivor <strong>of</strong> eight,five boys & three girls. For a number <strong>of</strong> years she taught school. When 28 she married MarcusH.Upson, a year later moved to <strong>Burlington</strong>. There were no children. She possessed anexceedingly fine set <strong>of</strong> teeth until about two years ago, when they began to drop out. She pridesherself in never having a tooth ache, a decayed tooth, or even ever employing a dentist. Shealso relates <strong>of</strong> a superstition which existed years ago and which she asserts she complied with.It is said that if a person bit a snake from head to tail he or she would always have sound teeth.Consequently a brother captured a snake and held it by head and tail while she did the rest. Herhealth is excellent. Aside from deafness her faculties are only slightly impaired. Mrs. Upson diedin 5-12-1904, age 102, the oldest woman in the state. Her husband died in 1864. Burial inCenter Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.UPSON, SARAH(Foote) died 1-24-1904, aged 70. A life long resident, born 10-13-1833. Herhusband, Washington died 33 years ago, leaving her in charge <strong>of</strong> a large farm, which she hascared for with much ability. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Adna Barnes <strong>of</strong> this town & Mrs.John Horsfall <strong>of</strong> Unionville. Burial in Center Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.URSAKI, Kenneth C. 73, <strong>of</strong> Ridge Rd. <strong>Burlington</strong>, husband <strong>of</strong> Mrs. Muriel(Tiffin) Ursaki, died3-29-1997, at the John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Born in Montreal, Canada, 9-12-1923,son <strong>of</strong> the late Ludwig and Lu L. Ursaki, he resided in <strong>Burlington</strong> for the last 29 years. Prior toretiring, he was the operation manager at Control Data, Inc., in Farmington. Mr. Ursaki was anactive member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Burlington</strong> Congregational Church, having served on the businesscommittee as was active in the church choir. Besides his wife, he is survived by his four childrenand their spouses, Diane U. Harakas and her husband, Steve Olaussen <strong>of</strong> Winthrop, MA; PatUrsaki and her husband, Michael Lockaby <strong>of</strong> Collinsville; Ken D. and Linne Ursaki <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>;Don G.Ursaki <strong>of</strong> New Hartford. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Lee Harakas, Kristenand Ian Lockaby and Lauren and Julia Ursaki. He was predeceased by a grandson, BrettR.Harakas; a sister, Dorothy Wood and a brother, George Ursaki. Buried in Center Cemetery,<strong>Burlington</strong>, CTURSO, RAYMOND E. J. 78, <strong>of</strong> Ft. Pierce, FL died on Sunday (April 17, 2005) at LawnwoodRegional Medical Center, Ft. Pierce, FL. Born on May 1926 in Glastonbury, he was a resident <strong>of</strong>Ft. Pierce for 22 years coming from Newington. Prior to retirement he was an owner <strong>of</strong> theVillage Food Mart in <strong>Burlington</strong> for 20 plus years. He served in the US Army, a member andusher <strong>of</strong> St. Anastasia's Catholic Church, member <strong>of</strong> Italian American Club, Bocce' Ball LeagueOfficial, Kazoo Club, Spanish Lakes Theatre Club & Talent Group, Spanish Lakes Bingo ClubOfficial. Predeceased by his wife, Joan Urso; sisters, Jenny Wessenberg, Viola Alos, AntoinetteNai; brother, James Urso and parents, Salvatore and Pauline. Survivors include a daughter,Donna and Michael Kennedy <strong>of</strong> Marlborough; sons, Raymond and Sharon Urso <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>,Stephen and Lauren Urso <strong>of</strong> New Hartford, Bruce Urso <strong>of</strong> Bristol, Scott and Kerry Urso <strong>of</strong>Sleepy Eye, MN; sisters, Mary Lou and Joseph Reynolds <strong>of</strong> Port St. Lucie, FL, Linda Moral <strong>of</strong>Ft. Pierce, grandchildren, Michael and Mark Kennedy <strong>of</strong> Philadelphia, PA, Jason, Bryan andMichelle Urso <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, Ashley and Katelynn Urso <strong>of</strong> Harwinton. A memorial mass will beheld on Thursday, April 21, 11:30 a.m., at St. Anastasia's Catholic Church, Ft. Pierce, Fl withFather Tim O'Toole <strong>of</strong>ficiating. A service will be held in Connecticut at a later date.Arrangements are under the direction <strong>of</strong> Aycock Funeral Home, Ft. Pierce FL.129
