Mrs. Michaels was born December 18, 1895 inRichmond, MA and was a daughter <strong>of</strong> the late Alfred and Salina (Durand) Perdrjzet. Mrs.Michaels was raised in East Canaan and resided in Bristol for several years before moving to<strong>Burlington</strong>. She was the oldest known graduate <strong>of</strong> the Hartford Hospital School <strong>of</strong> Nursing,having graduated in 1918. She worked through the flu epidemic <strong>of</strong> 1919 and later did privateduty nursing at Kent School for Boys, then worked at Sharon Hospital and Bristol Hospital,retiring in 1960. Mrs. Michaels loved animals and took care <strong>of</strong> injured animals in theneighborhood. She loved camping and enjoyed campfires and trips to the casinos, which shedid as recently as December. She also loved her Boston Red Sox and playing cards, includingSet Back, and was a member <strong>of</strong> the Congregational Church <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>. Mrs. Michaels issurvived by a son: Walter Michaels <strong>of</strong> Unionville; two daughters: Jeanette Mahannah <strong>of</strong> Bristoland Arlene Pavelchak <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She waspredeceased by a brother, George Perdrizet and a sister, Alice Young. She graduatedfrom Independence High School and Emporia State University (KSTC) and received her Ph.D.degree, in physiology and biophysics, from the University <strong>of</strong> Iowa College <strong>of</strong> Medicine in 1973.Dr. Minor then taught at the University <strong>of</strong> Missouri, in Kansas City until 1979, when she movedto <strong>Burlington</strong>. From 1983 to the present, she taught at Tunxis Community College, where shewas an Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor. During her career she was a member <strong>of</strong> several pr<strong>of</strong>essionalorganizations. As a mother and wife, she was active in many church and communityorganizations. In her 22 years as a member <strong>of</strong> the Congregational Church in <strong>Burlington</strong>, sheserved as needed as sexton, Sunday School Superintendent and chaired the Deaconate. Insupporting her children, she relished the many friends and acquaintances she made throughher children’s participation in Boy and Girl Scouts and band parents. In 1990, she was placed inthe Band Parents Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame at Lewis S. Mills High School for her work. Judy loved to fishand hunt. She loved to cook and delighted friends and family with many treats. She seriouslywelcomed the challenges <strong>of</strong> conducting meetings and organizations. She greatly enjoyed thesuccess <strong>of</strong> her students and loved the challenges and the chances she had to interact withthem. Her enthusiasm for life and its joys and knowledge <strong>of</strong> her physical being proved no matchfor the physical challenges to which she succumbed. Besides her husband, she is survived byher son, David Minor; her daughter, Dawn Perkins and her husband, Justin; and her much lovedgrandson, Jacob all <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>; her sister, Joan Gordon and her husband, Claire <strong>of</strong> Caney,83
