But he did not permit his business to claim all hisenergy, for he always took a keen, active and intelligent part in local affairs, being recognizedas a very public spirited man who believed in and worked for progress in education and otherdepartments <strong>of</strong> human endeavor. He gave his aid and encouragement to the building <strong>of</strong> theWhigville schoolhouse, which is much better than the average in outlying districts, and alwaysevinced a strong desire for the welfare <strong>of</strong> the school. For a long term he was a deacon in theCongregational church <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, and later become a member <strong>of</strong> the Bristol church.He always had a fondness for politics, being first a Whig and then a Republican. He heldquite a number <strong>of</strong> local <strong>of</strong>fices, all <strong>of</strong> which he filled in a most satisfactory manner, but he caredmore for the best interests <strong>of</strong> his party than for personal success and honors. The Grange, als<strong>of</strong>ound in him a loyal and enthusiastic member.It is the testimony <strong>of</strong> all who knew him that he was a man <strong>of</strong> high character, good judgmentand sterling integrity, an active, earnest citizen, and a loyal friend. His family relations wereespecially pleasant and lovable. He leaves to mourn for him a wife who is in feeble health, twosons, Mr. B. A. Peck, <strong>of</strong> the firm <strong>of</strong> Terry & Peck, Mr. D. C. Peck, <strong>of</strong> Whigville, who recentlyreturned from a residence <strong>of</strong> nine years in Chicago, Mrs. F. L. Gaylord <strong>of</strong> Ansonia, and Miss L.L. Peck, a teacher <strong>of</strong> elocution in Smith College for thirteen years past. (Bristol Press, 6-27-1895) Mr. Peck died 6-21-1895. Burial at Lamson Corner Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.PECK, LUDELLA L. Miss, 58, died in Ansonia 1-10-1913 at the home <strong>of</strong> her sister, Mrs.F.L.Gaylord. (appendicitis) She was born in Whigville on 12-25- 1855, her parents being Don E.and Mary Jane (Yale) Peck. She was called to Smith College in Northampton 33 years ago andthere found her life work. She was at the head <strong>of</strong> the department <strong>of</strong> Elocution and Dramatic art,a position that she filled with distinguished ability and success. Burial in Lamson CornerCemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.PELLETIER, BARBARA B.(Brideaux)52, widow <strong>of</strong> Albert Pelletier Sr. <strong>of</strong> 125 Reservoir Road,died ---. She was born 8-9-1934 in New Britain, a daughter <strong>of</strong> Walter & Eda (Barton)Brideaux,she lived in <strong>Burlington</strong> the past 33 years. In addition to her parents <strong>of</strong> New Port Richey, FL sheis survived by two daughters, Linda Soucy <strong>of</strong> Cheshire and Deborah Camire <strong>of</strong> Torrington; twobrothers, Walter Jr. and Merrick Pelletier, both <strong>of</strong> Newington. Buriel at Rose Hill Memorial Park,Rocky Hill, CT.PENT, MELCHIORRE, 71, husband <strong>of</strong> Dora (Fontana) Pent, <strong>of</strong> 1 George St. Terryville, aformer Torrington resident, died 8-10-1943. Born in Province <strong>of</strong> Torino, Italy 12-14-1911, a son<strong>of</strong> the late Forentino and Lucia (Montebona) Pent, he came to the Torrington area in 1927where he lived until moving to <strong>Burlington</strong> in 1943 where he was proprietor <strong>of</strong> Pent's PoultryFarm 33 years. (Just above M.Dunning place, route 4) In addition to his wife, he is survived bytwo sons, Robert and Timothy <strong>of</strong> Terryville; two daughters, Joyce Cunningham <strong>of</strong> Northfieldand Pat Lazauski <strong>of</strong> Harwinton; a sister, Louise Negri <strong>of</strong> Torrington; six grandchildren. Burial innew St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington, CT.PERRY, GEORGIA (Naedele) 69, widow <strong>of</strong> Oliver E.Perry <strong>of</strong> 25 Bari Lane, Unionville, died 4-6-1983. Born in Atlanta, GA, she lived in West Hartford and <strong>Burlington</strong>, prior to moving toUnionville two years ago. She leaves four daughters, Sharon P.Patterson <strong>of</strong> Cincinnati, OH.Phyllis Lavergne Turgeon <strong>of</strong> Unionville, (died 12-31-1994, auto accident)Caryl P.Goldstein andDeborah P.Blankenship, both <strong>of</strong> Tolland; a sister Phyllis Dolan <strong>of</strong> Rocky Hill. Burial in St. Mary'sCemetery, New Britain, CT.PERRY, OLIVER EDWARD, 69, <strong>of</strong> Covey Road, died 4-3-1979. Born in <strong>Burlington</strong>, he livedin West Hartford most <strong>of</strong> his life, and in <strong>Burlington</strong> the last 17 years. He leaves his wife,Georgia (Naedelle) Perry; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Sharon) Patterson <strong>of</strong> Cincinnati, OH;Mrs. Michael (Cary) Goldstein <strong>of</strong> Tolland; Mrs. Roland (Phyllis) Turgeon <strong>of</strong> Southington andMrs. Jimmie (Deborah) Blankenship <strong>of</strong> Tolland; three brothers, Gilbert <strong>of</strong> Columbia, SC,Edmund <strong>of</strong> Harwichport, MA and Phillip <strong>of</strong> Wethersfield.
