McPhail,died on Tuesday, (May 30, 2006) at Bristol Hospital. Mrs. McPhail was born in Presque Isle, MEon March 18, 1932 and was a daughter <strong>of</strong> the late Chester and Dora (Cote) Greenier. Sheformerly resided in East Hartford before moving to <strong>Burlington</strong> 46 years ago. She worked as awaitress and served as a foster mother for the State <strong>of</strong> Connecticut. Mrs. McPhail is survived bya daughter and son-in- law, Lynn and Walter Carlson <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>; three sons and twodaughters-in-Iaw: Peter McPhail Sr. <strong>of</strong> Harwinton, James and Lorraine Denslow <strong>of</strong> New Haven,and Larry and Virginia Miskimen <strong>of</strong> Georgia; eight grandchildren; Tamra Wallace, Peter McPhailJr., Megan and Benjamin McPhail, Lavon Miskimen, Annie Welch, Karin Alexander, and DavidCarlson; and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by twininfant daughters, Brenda and Bonnie. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, at 11a.m. at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial will follow in <strong>Burlington</strong> CenterCemetery. He is survived by two sisters, Katherine Gilchrist <strong>of</strong>Farmington, and Elsie Gaffney <strong>of</strong> Port Ewin, NY. Born 1-23-1923 in Bristol, a daughter <strong>of</strong> the late Stephen andRose (Page) LaMothe. She lived in the area all her life. In addition to her husband she issurvived by two sons, John Jay <strong>of</strong> Bristol and Kim P. <strong>of</strong> Rutland VT; a daughter JanelleM.Palmer <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>; two sisters, Rita Paradis <strong>of</strong> Bristol and Lillian McEvitt <strong>of</strong> Manchester.Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol, CT.MERCER, GEORGE EULAS, 63, died at his home on Vineyard Road 7-26-1958. He wasborn in Ontario, Canada, 8-16-1895, a son <strong>of</strong> Charles Burr and Isabelle Bennett Mercer. Aveteran <strong>of</strong> WW I, also a member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Burlington</strong> Congregational Church. He leaves his wife,Mildred (Wolstenholme) Mercer; five brothers, Victor C. <strong>of</strong> Boston, the Rev. Arthur B. <strong>of</strong>Killingly, Herbert A. <strong>of</strong> Wilton, NH, Charles W. <strong>of</strong> Jersey City, NJ and Robert A. <strong>of</strong> Canton; anda sister, Mrs. Douglas Andrews <strong>of</strong> West Hartford.MERRIMAN, CARLTON T. 80, <strong>of</strong> 7 Black Walnut Lane, husband <strong>of</strong> Marion(Ehlers)Merrimam, died 2-19-1993. Born in Bristol, 11-1-1912, he wasa son <strong>of</strong> the late GeorgeM. and Rachel(Harper)Merriman and a <strong>Burlington</strong> resident since 1945. Besides his wife, heleaves a son, Thompson <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>; a daughter, Lucretia Fortier <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>; a brother,Robert S. <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>. Burial in West Cemetery, Bristol, CT.MESSICK, Thelma B. 77, <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, beloved wife <strong>of</strong> Harold W. Messick, passed awaypeacefully Saturday (January, 22, 2005). Thelma was born in Wethersfield, December 20, 1927to the late Ernest and Alma Noren. She was employed by Spector Freight Corp. in Plainville for30 years, before her retirement. Thelma was an avid bowler, ice skater, and roller skater, awonderful knitter and played the piano. A long time fan <strong>of</strong> the women's UCONN HuskiesBasketball team, as well as other sports. She was a long time 45 year resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong> anda member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Burlington</strong> Congregational Church. Besides her loving husband, she issurvived by two sons, David Messick <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, Bryan Messick and his wife Dorothy <strong>of</strong>Bristol; and a cherished daughter, Deborah Golden <strong>of</strong> Simsbury; two deeply lovedgrandchildren, Tucker Pesce <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong> and Taylor Golden <strong>of</strong> Farmington; and a sister,Gladys Gilberto <strong>of</strong> Las Vegas, NV. Thelma was predeceased by three brothers and threesisters, Heubert Noren, Russell Noren and Donald Noren, Alice Billman, Pearl Carter and VivianEvans. Thelma cherished her family and holiday gatherings, including being the hostess <strong>of</strong> theirannual 4th <strong>of</strong> July picnics for 35 straight years at their home in <strong>Burlington</strong>.
