He was born in Hartford, 3-9-1906. After graduationfrom Yale University in 1928, he joined his father in the Dunning Sand and Gravel Co. inFarmington, becoming full owner <strong>of</strong> the company, from 1935 to 1963. After early retirement in1963 he took on the job <strong>of</strong> photographing birds <strong>of</strong> South America. He and his wife have spentthe last 25 years fulfilling this project. John is best remembered for establishing the MatanzasPass Preserve on the beach, now managed by the Florida Chapter <strong>of</strong> the Nature Conservancy.John published, and or supplied for, a number <strong>of</strong> books on birds <strong>of</strong> South America. Besides hiswife, he is survived by four children, Dr. Harriet Parsons <strong>of</strong> Philadelphia, PA, Stewart W.Dunning <strong>of</strong> North Granby, R.
