Later the family settled in <strong>Burlington</strong>,and in January, 1876, at the age <strong>of</strong> 18, she joined the Congregational Church <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong> andwas its oldest member, 64 years. In April 18, 1877, she married Edward P.Baldwin, also achurch member. She leaves one brother, James Henry, age 91 who survives her. BALDWIN, SUSAN(Smith) wife <strong>of</strong> the late Willis Baldwin, died 2-7-1915. She was born inHarwinton in 1825, and would have been 90 years old next August. She was the daughter <strong>of</strong>Roswell & Sina Smith, and leaves a sister, Mrs. Nettie Guild <strong>of</strong> Milton & 3 brothers, Newton, <strong>of</strong>New Britain; Henry <strong>of</strong> Bristol, & Hubert <strong>of</strong> this place. She also leaves one son, Edwin P. <strong>of</strong> thistown. Born inGermany in July <strong>of</strong> 1930, Asta Ball spent much <strong>of</strong> her career as a business executive inConnecticut, retiring in 1996 to her lovely home in <strong>Burlington</strong>. Aster was nationally recognizedfor her business expertise and counsel. She served as a business advisor to President GeraldFord and she also served a term as President <strong>of</strong> the National Small Business Association.Locally, she served for many years as a member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Burlington</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Education.Predeceased by her parents and her two sisters, she is survived by her two children and fourgreat grandchildren. Services will be private and at the convenience <strong>of</strong> her family. In 1885 he sold out, came to New Britain and accepteda position in the Stanley Works, but gave this up to go to TX and engage in cattle raising onEagle Lake.9
