Mrs. Esther L. Butler <strong>of</strong> Terryville and Mrs. Hazel L. Morrill and Miss Doris J. Lowrey both <strong>of</strong>Whigville; a sister Mrs. Annis L. Bacon <strong>of</strong> Bristol. Burial in West Cemetery, Bristol, CT.LOWREY, ELNORA(Goodsell) 85, died 3-20-1908. Born in New Hartford 2-20-1822, theoldest daughter <strong>of</strong> Josiah and Eunice Lester Goodsell. She married Alfred Lowrey in 1847, <strong>of</strong>Whigville. Mr. Lowrey learned the trade <strong>of</strong> wooden clock making at the old Atkin's factory inBristol and then engaged in the manufacture <strong>of</strong> the clocks for himself at Whigville about fiftyyears ago. With the introduction <strong>of</strong> the brass movement the wooden clock trade decreased andMr. Lowrey gave up the business to engage in farming . He died in 7-21-1872. Mrs. Lowreywent to Whigville as a bride and had resided in the Lowrey homestead till her death. Thehomestead is now one <strong>of</strong> the landmarks <strong>of</strong> the village. She is survived by five children, Mrs.Alfred Norton <strong>of</strong> Bristol, Augustus & Lester L. Lowrey <strong>of</strong> Whigville, Mrs. Arthur G.Nearing <strong>of</strong>Bristol and Mrs. Joseph Holcomb <strong>of</strong> Simsbury. One brother, William O. Goodsell <strong>of</strong> Bristol.Thirteen grandchildren and seven grandchildren. Burial in Lamson Corner Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>,CT.LOWREY, HAROLD R. 94, <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, husband <strong>of</strong> Elizabeth (Schulze) Lowrey, died 12-30-2002 at Bristol Hospital. Mr. Lowrey was born 2-9-1908 in Bristol, a son <strong>of</strong> Edwin and Julia(Wright) Lowrey. A lifelong <strong>Burlington</strong> resident, he worked at the former Loveland’s appliancestore on Main Street in Bristol and then at Chapman Machine in Terryville before retiring 29years ago. Mr. Lowrey was active with Cub Scouts in <strong>Burlington</strong>, serving as committeechairman, and was a life member and past master <strong>of</strong> the Whigville Grange. He was also alongtime member <strong>of</strong> Prospect United Methodist Church in Bristol. In addition to his wife, Mr.Lowrey is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Diana Lowrey <strong>of</strong>Barkhamsted and James and Leslie Lowrey <strong>of</strong> Bristol, Robert Lowrey <strong>of</strong> Florida; a sister, DorisTaylor <strong>of</strong> Bristol; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Burial in Center Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.LOWREY, LESTER L. Ex-representative died 1910. He was the second son <strong>of</strong> Alfred &Elnora and was born 2-25-1851, living all his life in <strong>Burlington</strong>. (except for 1 year in Bristol) Hewas republican Representative four years ago and was justice <strong>of</strong> the peace for many years. Acharter member <strong>of</strong> the grange, held the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> master, overseer and chaplain. He leaves hiswife Lillian (Bunnell)& 3 children, Edwin W. & Mrs. Annis Bacon <strong>of</strong> Bristol & Rollin B.Lowrey <strong>of</strong><strong>Burlington</strong>. A brother, Augustus A. <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong> and 3 sisters, Mrs. Alfred Norton & Mrs. ArthurNearing <strong>of</strong> Bristol & Mrs. Mary Holcomb <strong>of</strong> Simsbury.LOWREY, LILLIAN C.(Clarke) 75, wife <strong>of</strong> former <strong>Burlington</strong> Judge <strong>of</strong> Probate, WilburW.Lowrey, <strong>of</strong> 11 Stone Road, died 10-24-1983. Born in New Haven on 7-30-1908, a daughter <strong>of</strong>the late Eben W. and Addie (Chapman) Clarke, she lived in <strong>Burlington</strong> most <strong>of</strong> her life. Beforeretiring in 1969 she taught school in Bristol for 26 years. She was a member <strong>of</strong> Prospect UnitedMethodist Church <strong>of</strong> Bristol. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, ChristineRosenbaum <strong>of</strong> Glendale Heights, IL, two grandchildren. Burial in Center Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>,CT.LOWREY, WILBUR W. Judge, 85, formerly <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong>, and former Judge <strong>of</strong> Probate <strong>of</strong><strong>Burlington</strong> for eight years, husband <strong>of</strong> Estelle(Wilson)Jerman Lowrey, widower <strong>of</strong> Lillian(Clarke)Lowrey, died 5-13-1995. He was born 8-8-1909, in Bristol, and was one <strong>of</strong> nine children<strong>of</strong> the late Edwin and Julia(Wright)Lowrey. A <strong>Burlington</strong> resident for most <strong>of</strong> his life. In additionto his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Fred Rosenbaum <strong>of</strong><strong>Burlington</strong>; two brothers, Harold <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burlington</strong> and Robert <strong>of</strong> Winter Park, FL; two sisters, HazelMorrell and Doris Taylor, both <strong>of</strong> Bristol. Burial in Center Cemetery, <strong>Burlington</strong>, CT.LOWREY, WILLIAM. The following is an exact copy <strong>of</strong> a clipping received by his brother, Mr.Hiram P.Lowrey in regard to the death <strong>of</strong> William Lowrey;Chehales, Wash. March 25. Begging piteously for his fellow workers to kill him and end hissufferings, William Lowrey yesterday afternoon died after enduring two hours and a half <strong>of</strong> themost awful agony. The frightful accident occurred at the logging camp <strong>of</strong> Ed. Eastman on DeepCreek. Lowrey was in charge <strong>of</strong> a donkey engine which was being moved across the creek. A75
