Burial in West Cemetery, Bristol, CT.LOWREY, ELNORA(Goodsell) 85, died 3-20-1908. Born in New Hartford 2-20-1822, theoldest daughter <strong>of</strong> Josiah and Eunice Lester Goodsell. She married Alfred Lowrey in 1847, <strong>of</strong>Whigville. Mr. Lowrey learned the trade <strong>of</strong> wooden clock making at the old Atkin's factory inBristol and then engaged in the manufacture <strong>of</strong> the clocks for himself at Whigville about fiftyyears ago. With the introduction <strong>of</strong> the brass movement the wooden clock trade decreased andMr. Lowrey gave up the business to engage in farming . He died in 7-21-1872. Mrs. Lowreywent to Whigville as a bride and had resided in the Lowrey homestead till her death. Thehomestead is now one <strong>of</strong> the landmarks <strong>of</strong> the village. A lifelong <strong>Burlington</strong> resident, he worked at the former Loveland’s appliancestore on Main Street in Bristol and then at Chapman Machine in Terryville before retiring 29years ago. Mr. Lowrey was active with Cub Scouts in <strong>Burlington</strong>, serving as committeechairman, and was a life member and past master <strong>of</strong> the Whigville Grange. He was also alongtime member <strong>of</strong> Prospect United Methodist Church in Bristol.
