The Iranian Problem95adopted a series of successive “sancti<strong>on</strong>s resoluti<strong>on</strong>s,” each of whichnoted a lack of progress in Iran’s compliance with the precedingresoluti<strong>on</strong>.UN Security Council Resoluti<strong>on</strong> 1737 (2006) 33 prohibited shipmentof any equipment or technology to Iran that could be used eitherfor uranium enrichment or for reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.It also froze the bank accounts of Iranian companies implicated in illegallyacquiring nuclear technology abroad. The Resoluti<strong>on</strong> furtherobliged the UN member states to inform the UN Security Council’sSpecial Committee if any Iranian individuals associated with nuclearactivities crossed their borders. 34 Resoluti<strong>on</strong> 1747 (2007) 35 expandedthe list of sancti<strong>on</strong>s that had initially been introduced in December2006 in Resoluti<strong>on</strong> 1737; in particular, the new resoluti<strong>on</strong> prohibitedIran from exporting weap<strong>on</strong>s.UN Security Council Resoluti<strong>on</strong> 1803 (2008) 36 reaffirmed the provisi<strong>on</strong>sof the preceding resoluti<strong>on</strong>s and appealed to all nati<strong>on</strong>s(in accordance with their nati<strong>on</strong>al regulati<strong>on</strong>s and laws and withinternati<strong>on</strong>al law) to carry out inspecti<strong>on</strong>s of cargo arriving at theirairports and seaports bel<strong>on</strong>ging to certain Iranian companies suspectedof transporting equipment and materials used for undeclarednuclear activities. Resoluti<strong>on</strong> 1835 (2008) 37 reaffirmed the resolveheld by the UN Security Council member states to compel Iranto comply with the previous Resoluti<strong>on</strong>s.Iran has not recognized the legitimacy of the sancti<strong>on</strong>s adopted bythe UN Security Council and c<strong>on</strong>tinues to ignore their provisi<strong>on</strong>s<strong>on</strong> uranium enrichment almost five years after the first resoluti<strong>on</strong>was adopted.
