18.2 Aqueous plutonium group 17 (halogen) complexes 375the fact that no reliable studies are available in acidic media, in which noticeably lowerconstants were obtained in the case of Np(VI).log 10 β1 ◦ (18.11, q = 1, 298.15 K) = 4.56 ± 0.20The only credible study reporting constants for the formation of the 1:2 complexis by Sawant et al. [85SAW/CHA] in 0.1 and 1 M NaClO 4 media (cf. AppendixA). The constants are corrected to I = 0byusingε(18.11, q = 2) =−(0.50±0.10) kg·mol −1 from the corresponding Np(VI) system. The resulting valuesof log 10 β2 ◦ are not in agreement (cf. Table 18.2). Agreement could be reached by usingε(18.11, q = 2) = 0kg·mol −1 instead of −0.5 kg·mol −1 . However, this does notcorrespond to the specific ion interaction coefficients commonly observed in such systems(cf. Appendix B). More experiments are required to examine the ionic strengthdependence of this equilibrium. At this time, the unweighted average of the two valuesis selected, with an uncertainty that covers the range of expectancy of the two values:log 10 β2 ◦ (18.11, q = 2, 298.15 K) = 7.25 ± 0.45
