REGISTRATIONOn SiteWays to RegisterRegistration begins each semester as soon as the course schedulebecomes available on the Web and continues until the start <strong>of</strong> thesemester. A late fee is charged for registering after the regular registrationperiod. Students should check the current UndergraduateSchedule <strong>of</strong> Classes for the deadlines for regular and late registration.UMUC <strong>of</strong>fers five ways to register for most courses: by phone viathe Interactive Registration and Information System (IRIS), by mail,by fax, online, and on site (either during an advising session or at awalk-in admission and registration).By Telephone via IRISStudents are eligible to register by phone via the InteractiveRegistration and Information System (IRIS) if they have alreadybeen admitted to UMUC as an undergraduate. (Note: Former studentswho have not registered for courses within the last two yearsmust first be readmitted.) Through IRIS, students may register byentering all pertinent information via their touch-tone telephone.IRIS provides immediate feedback on course availability and thestudent’s registration, student account, and financial aid status.Students may call IRIS at 800-584-9413 or 301-985-7499 dailyfrom 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. eastern time. Detailed instructions onIRIS registration are available each semester in the UndergraduateSchedule <strong>of</strong> Classes and online at www.umuc.edu/students/iris/irisindex.html.OnlineAdmitted students may register online via the Interactive StudentInformation System (ISIS) at www.umuc.edu/isis. Note: The processis not yet fully automated and requires manual processing byUMUC to complete.By FaxStudents may fax their registration to 301-985-7364. Forms areavailable in the Undergraduate Schedule <strong>of</strong> Classes.Students who have an employer contract must be sure to fax theirregistration and employer contract at the same time. Any fees notcovered by the contract must be charged to VISA or MasterCard.By MailStudents may mail their registration to Registrar’s Office,<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong>, 3501 <strong>University</strong>Boulevard East, Adelphi, MD 20783. Forms are available in theUndergraduate Schedule <strong>of</strong> Classes.During AdvisingAcademic advisors will help students register during an academicadvising session. The student must, however, be prepared to payall tuition and fees at the time he or she registers.During Walk-In Admission and RegistrationWalk-in admission and registration is held in the Student andFaculty Services Center in Adelphi and at more than 15 otherlocations in the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. Studentsmay register for any course <strong>of</strong>fered (regardless <strong>of</strong> locationor format) at any walk-in registration. Locations, dates, and timesare listed each semester in the Undergraduate Schedule <strong>of</strong> Classes.The Waiting ListIf a class is already full at the time <strong>of</strong> registration, the student has theoption <strong>of</strong> placing his or her name on a waiting list for that class.Students who register by mail, fax, or online (and list no alternateclasses) are added to the waiting list automatically. Students who registerby phone are prompted by IRIS to choose that option.Waiting List PoliciesRegardless <strong>of</strong> how the student registers, the following policiesapply:•Students may put their name on the waiting list for only sixcourses or sections.•Students may not attend a class for which they are on the waitinglist.•Faculty members and academic advisors are not authorized toadd students to a closed class. Authorization may be providedonly through IRIS by following the waiting list process.•If space in class becomes available, it will be held for the student(pending confirmation) for 48 hours only. After 48 hours, the spaceis released to another student. The student will not be contacted ifa space being held for him or her in a course becomes available—itis the student’s responsibility to check in regularly with IRIS to findout course status.The easiest way for a student to confirm registration for a class isto register through IRIS (following directions from the list coursemenu) and pay by entering his or her credit-card (VISA orMasterCard) information.13
