This assistance can includea review <strong>of</strong> potential transfer credit, help with clarification <strong>of</strong> educationand career goals, and aid in selecting appropriate courses.Advising services are available at times and places convenient to students.Students who are close to UMUC’s headquarters in Adelphi,<strong>Maryland</strong>, or near one <strong>of</strong> the UMUC sites in the <strong>Maryland</strong> regionhave the option to schedule an appointment to discuss their needswith an advisor in person by calling between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.eastern time, Monday through Friday. Many students, however,choose to communicate with their advisor by phone, fax, or e-mail.Initial Estimate <strong>of</strong> Transfer CreditProspective or newly admitted students can have a review <strong>of</strong> theirpotential transfer credit done by an enrollment specialist. Thisreview is an estimate <strong>of</strong> the academic credit UMUC might accepttoward a particular degree and <strong>of</strong> the requirements that wouldremain to be fulfilled. This review is not binding on either the student or UMUCand is subject to change.Evaluation <strong>of</strong> International RecordsStudents who are seeking an evaluation <strong>of</strong> potential transfer creditfrom international postsecondary educational institutions need to•Be admitted and be seeking an undergraduate degree atUMUC.•Mail their <strong>of</strong>ficial international transcripts to the internationalcredit evaluation services selected by UMUC. (Forms are availableonline at www.umuc.edu/students/credeval.html or may berequested by calling 800-888-UMUC.)•Pay fees associated with the international evaluation.•Have all <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts from any U.S. institution previouslyattended sent to UMUC.Official Evaluation for Degree-SeekingStudentsStudents who have completed 6 semester hours at UMUC, with acumulative grade-point average (GPA) <strong>of</strong> 2.0 or better, are eligibleto request an <strong>of</strong>ficial evaluation <strong>of</strong> their transfer credit. For thisevaluation, students need to submit <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts from allcolleges and universities previously attended, including other institutions<strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> System <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong>, whether or nottransfer credit is requested or granted. UMUC may deny transfercredit from any institution not listed on the application for admission.Sources <strong>of</strong> transfer credit not listed at the time <strong>of</strong> admissionor approved by an advisor after admission cannot be applied towardthe UMUC degree.An <strong>of</strong>ficial evaluation•Includes all transfer credits earned up to the date <strong>of</strong> the evaluationthat may be applied to a UMUC degree program.• Lists all courses completed at UMUC.•Incorporates other types <strong>of</strong> academic credit.•Indicates the amount and type <strong>of</strong> coursework still required forthe degree being sought.The <strong>of</strong>ficial evaluation remains in effect only while the studentremains continuously enrolled.Students are responsible for submitting all pertinent academicdocuments (such as academic transcripts, confirmation <strong>of</strong> creditconferred by examination, or records <strong>of</strong> credit from military servicesschools) during their first semester at UMUC. Toallow for adequate planning, students who need accommodationsshould contact the director <strong>of</strong> Veteran and Disabled Student Servicesat least four to six weeks before the beginning <strong>of</strong> the semester.Students must request accommodations each time they register. Thefirst time a student requests accommodation, current (within threeyears) documentation <strong>of</strong> a disability must be submitted. Dependingon the disability, documentation may include secondary schoolrecords; medical, psychiatric, or psychological reports and diagnoses;or a psychoeducational evaluation.
