The developmentof the knowledge and skills necessary to install, configure, manage, and support the Windows 2000 Active Directory service.Topics include understanding the logical and physical structure ofActive Directory, configuring the domain name service to supportActive Directory, creating and administering user accounts andgroup resources, controlling Active Directory objects, implementingand using group policy, managing replication of Active Directory, and maintaining and restoring the Active Directory database. Handsonexercises are included. Students may receive credit for only one ofthe following courses: CMIT 377 or CMIT 377M.CMIT 381 Oracle DatabaseAdministration (3)(Formerly CMIT 381O.) Prerequisite: CMIT 261. A foundationin basic database administration tasks. Focus is on gaining a conceptualunderstanding of the Oracle9i database architecture andhow the architectural structures work and interact with oneanother. Topics include how to create an operational database andproperly manage the various structures in an effective and efficientmanner. Hands-on exercises include configuring networkparameters so that database clients and tools can communicatewith an Oracle database server. Backup and recovery techniquesare introduced, and various backup, failure, and restoration andrecovery scenarios are examined. Students may receive credit foronly one of the following courses: CMIT 381 or CMIT 381O.CMIT 391 UNIX System Administration (3)(Formerly CMIS 390.) Prerequisite: CMIS 325. An in-depthexamination of UNIX internals, including loading, configuring, and maintaining UNIX operating systems. Both theory andhands-on experience are provided in boot-up and shutdownprocesses; file system creation and structure; system maintenanceand security, especially in the network file system and networkinformation system; and UNIX Internet provider network configurationand maintenance. The Red Hat Linux operating system isused for all lab work.
